Lift Your Hands

We have talked about it much over the last year through this blog; through the book, Praying with Purpose; and in person at both formal and informal gatherings.  What is it?  PRAYER!!

  • Prayer is our job. Lamentations 2:19 states, “Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the night watches!  Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord!  Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.”
  • Prayer is our weapon. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).

We are fighting for souls – The souls of our loved ones (insert “grandchildren” Smile!).

The only question remaining is, “Do we BELIEVE it!”

My husband loves this quote from the Truth Project by Focus on the Family, “Do you really believe, that what you believe is really real?”

If we do,…really believe that prayer is our job, …really believe that prayer is our weapon, …really believe that there is a spiritual battle waging all around, …really believe that Satan is after the souls of our grandchildren, …really believe that we are fighting for their very souls…

Then we should be the most intentional, consistent, diligent, faithful pray-ers on the planet.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of seeing the movie War Room.  It was powerful and challenging.  I came away from it with a renewed sense of urgency regarding PRAYER.  My mind has been reeling.  I loved the idea of a Prayer Closet, or War Room, as highlighted in the movie.  And while not everyone has a home where they can clear out a closet, we can all create that space somewhere, somehow – a corner, a wall, a notebook.  Intentional, concentrated time alone in your Prayer Closet IS essential; vital even.  But it is also essential that we intentionally purpose to link arms (spirits) with other believers and join with them in prayer as well.  Our battle is both private and public.  Our prayers should be as well.

Will you join us?

Sunday, September 13, 2015, is designated as Grandparents’ Day – a day to honor Grandparents and their role in our families.  As Grandparents’ who “really believe, that what [we] believe is really real,” let’s purpose TODAY to set aside this day as a day to join together and pray for the next generations (our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren…).

Let’s spread the word and let Satan know that we mean business.  Begin now to invite others to join you in prayer.  Gather some friends and neighbors in your home on September 13th, meet together at your church building or a nearby coffee shop, or even schedule prayer time together via FaceTime or Skype.  It doesn’t matter how.  It does matter that we do. It is time for us as believers to stand up and create an army of praying grandparents for the next generations.

We’d love to hear from you if you are making the commitment to prayer on September 13th.  Just leave a comment below indicating your commitment.  If you are gathering a group of friends and/or family to join you, please share that as well.  There is POWER in TOGETHER!  And if you need resources to help in praying specifically, please let me know in the comments or by sending an email to deborahhaddix@aol.com.  I would love to help equip you by sending you a resource sheet of Scripture to pray for your grandchildren.

soli deo gloria,

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”  (James 5:16)

““Even when I am old and gray…I will declare Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.”  (Psalm 71:18)

For those who might be interested, there is a national movement being spear-headed by Christian Grandparenting Network toward grandparents coming together in prayer on September 13th.  For more information on this movement go to: http://www.christiangrandparenting.net.
