Grandparents’ Day of Prayer is just around the corner. This coming Sunday, September 9th, grandparents around the world will be joining together in prayer. As they stand in the gap for their grandchildren, many will be praying prayers for protection and strength. Some will pray for specific needs and for the development of Godly character. Others will engage in Scripture prayers.
The intended focus of the day is, of course, prayer for our grandchildren. However, while we are before God’s throne seeking His mercy, grace, provision, and favor on their behalf and on behalf of their parents, I would like to suggest that we also spend some of our prayer time praying for ourselves and other grandparents. It is a weighty and crucial role God has given to us – passing the heritage of faith. One we must bathe in prayer.
Legacy Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that you give me your vision for the precious souls that I call family. Help me to make the commitment to pray consistently and specifically for each one. I pray for the strength and the energy to stand firm in my commitment. Place others in my life who will hold me accountable to both the commitment and the follow through.
Lord, hear my prayers as I pray specifically for my family and others You place on my heart. Help me surrender my concerns to You and rest in the knowledge that You, O God, are sovereign. Accept my praises and thanksgiving as an offering of love and worship.
May I be intentional in caring for my own soul as well for I know that it is impossible to pour into others what I do not possess myself. Help me to be faithful to spend time in Your Word for it’s in these pages that I become versed in Your design and grow to know you better. Help me to become a wisdom hunter in the pages of Scripture. May I also be committed to times of personal prayer and self-reflection as care for my soul.
Help me to love my family well and to be a godly example for them. Assist me in being faithful to my commitment to pray intentionally, consistently, and specifically. Guide me in leaving a legacy of faith.
